Congratulations RDT apprentices ...
As part of RDT’s commitment to supporting young local tech talent and to support our strategy of growing organically we are really pleased to be able to congratulate Anthony Wilson and Jack Greenhalgh on passing their final exams.

Anthony and Jack joined RDT in May last year and embarked on an apprenticeship programme supported by QA. The course is a combination of on the job learning and classroom based teaching, both scored highly in their exams and completed the course well ahead of the expected completion date. They are now working on personal and technical objectives around being completely integrated within the RDT team structure for their second year with the company.

Office

The aim of the programme at RDT is to develop young people with potential to enable them to work and learn at the same time. Previous success stories include Adam Page (an Apprentice who joined us in 2011) who has recently been working with the Technical director on refactoring and is now working with the livewire team on a client project and Ida Tucker & Sohail Nasir who joined us as graduates in 2013 and 2011 respectively; both working closely with clients.

As a forward looking technology company, this investment in talent and innovation is a key element of our business approach. We are constantly on the lookout for people who believe they can make a real contribution to pushing our solutions into the future and maintaining our well-earned reputation for innovation and excellence. We especially value team players who take pride in their craftsmanship, pay attention to detail, and can be relied upon to go the extra mile when there’s a big deadline looming. Redefining tomorrow begins today.

Andy Gill - Business Analyst
I came to work for RDT last July as a business analyst in their client services team. I’d spent the previous six years in a similar role at AXA’s motor claims division, but I wanted to work for a smaller company with a more personal touch.

I began my career as an apprentice car mechanic and have never left the motor sector! My second job was at the Motor Insurance Repair Research centre at Thatcham in Berkshire, where I performed a few roles. One was as a photographer, taking pictures of cars that had been deliberately crashed into concrete blocks to help work out repair costs and group rating information. Another was as a body shop design consultant, drawing up plans and business cases for repairers.

Office

I left the MIRRC Thatcham to head up the training division of Audatex UK, who supply motor vehicle estimating solutions. I worked there for 18 years and held a few different positions, mostly in the customer support field. I gained a lot of experience and IT knowledge there and was mostly field-based, working in the clients’ offices all round the UK.

My role at RDT allows me to use my customer support skills to help our customers get the changes they really need. The job requires a good understanding of Landscape, and after six months I feel as if I’m finally getting there. I’m looking forward to seeing how the insurance industry changes, and in particular what new products RDT will create.

Plugging the flood risks

April 24, 2015

Many properties are at a raised risk of flooding due to subsidence.
Climate scientists have been warning about rising sea levels for a number of years. Decades of extracting ground water, oil and gas has been shown to cause subsidence, while there are also entire cities with subsidence because they have been built on soft ground that is slowly compacting.

FLOOD

This will have obvious impacts on commercial property and household insurers. How do you manage or mitigate your flood risks?

What impact is there on motor insurers? Should they also consider collaborating on Flood RE?
